What are filament fibers? Some of the most common ones used for satin are silk, nylon, and polyester. Traditionally, satin was only made with silk but modern materials like nylon and polyester are now used, too. Staple fibers include materials like cotton and rayon, which are used for sateen.

When it comes to bath towels, size is an important factor to consider.  Bath towels can vary in size, so it's important to choose a size that suits your needs.  

Linen is another natural fiber derived from the flax plant. Instead of fluffy cotton bolls, linen fibers are produced from the stems of flax. The structure of flax stems is what gives linen fabrics their innate strength and durability. Don’t let the rough thread fool you at first glance, though - the more you wash linen, the softer it becomes.

This synthetic fibre creates a soft, durable and wrinkle resistant fabric. Although, as it is quite a dense fabric, it may feel a bit warm and sweaty in hot weather.

 A common issue with microfiber sheets is static electricity.  Due to the synthetic nature of microfiber, static electricity can sometimes build up, causing sheets to cling to your body or feel uncomfortable.  To reduce static, it is recommended to wash microfiber sheets with fabric softener or in the dryer, or use an anti-static spray when making the bed.

Both linen and cotton make excellent bedding fabrics and share quite a few similarities — most notably their water-absorbent qualities and that refreshing, airy feeling. But there are quite a few differences as well, and being aware of them can make it easier for you to choose between the two.

'While cotton makes a great choice for bed sheets in either summer or winter, flannel and brushed cotton are excellent options if you are looking for something a little bit more toasty, soft and cozy,' says Nadia.

A bedsheet is a rectangular piece of cloth that is placed on top of a mattress. You may get them in several materials, ranging from cotton to linen to silk and more. Bedsheets are available in two styles: fitted and flat. Each serves a particular purpose on the mattress. A fitted sheet has elastic woven into the seam throughout the whole sheet. It is meant to fit down over the corners of the mattress and tuck underneath it for a snug fit. A fitted sheet helps prevent the sheet from slipping off the mattress while the bed is in use. A flat sheet is then placed immediately on top of the mattress. On most beds, it is tucked under the foot of the bed. In most cases, fitted sheets serve as the top sheets, while flat sheets serve as the bottom sheets.

While it may seem that a two-ply bed sheet would be a better choice with the greater number of fibers it contains, this isn’t usually the case. Two-ply sheets are often rougher and less durable, as cheaper materials are typically used. Focus more of your efforts on finding the right material and weave, but do try to stick with one-ply sheets. 

 In addition to size, high quality towels is also crucial.  Look for towels made from high-quality absorbent materials like Egyptian cotton towels or Turkish cotton towels.
